An unopened box containing BARBIE FLORES DE MAYO 1998, A SantaCruzan Festival Collection. By Mattel, Inc. Made in the Philippines. Featuring REYNA CARIDAD.

The Santacruzan is a novena procession usually held in honor of the Virgin Mary. It also commemorates the early Christian's finding of the Cross, a celebration in the Philippines during the month of May. It is  usually held on May 3, the day when Empress Elena was the mother of Constantine The great, the first Christian roman Emperor who embraced Christianity by stopping the persecutions of Christians.

In early times, Santacruzan was considered a sacred celebration, but today in many places in the Philippines, Santacruzan has become a cross between a religious procession and a beauty pageant. Here, the highest tribute that could be paid to a woman's beauty is to be selected as Reyna Elena.

The Filipina Santacruzan Barbie Collection showcases the participants of such eleborate procession. From the selection of intricately designed costumes of Barbie, the image of what Santacruzan stands for has been manifested thru the introduction of Filipina Santacurzan Barbie.
