Laurie Regan Chase bio:
The work of Laurie Regan Chase evoke a timeless charm with simple elegance. Depictions of Greek and Italian coastline communities of a romantic vision, yet using an exacting and detail oriented style, she has captured the imagination of art collectors nationwide. Chase masterfully blends realistic brushwork and bold, impressionistic palette knife technique. She combines radiant color with rich texture, transporting the viewer into a serene and beautiful vision.
Born in Chicago, Chase studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She moved to Northern California, and began to paint scenic shoreline images, focusing on the rugged natural beauty of the coast. Later travels throughout the Mediterranean, Black, and Aegean Seas inspired her new series. The immense popularity of these images is evident in her frequent exhibitions and numerous gallery affiliations throughout the country. Her work is also featured in several national and international collections, from Beverly Hills to Paris and Munich.
Art historians, curators, and collectors view proofs as especially desirable because of their rarity, the insight they may give into the progress of the work, and because they may well have belonged to the artist. In this case this AP uses an early name which was changed in later editions.
Collectors also usually prefer final Artist's Proofs even when they are identical to the main edition (as this one is); if nothing else the print may have been presented to a friend or acquaintance by the artist. Prints are generally sold as limited editions, with a print being cheaper than an original drawing or painting because the artist/gallery makes more money by selling multiples. An Artist's Proof has special value because of its extra rarity and its possible differences from the "standard" print, factors that are often reflected in its price.
