Copyright 1932. Print Run 1932. 218 pgs. Grosset & Dunlap. Margaret Sutton, author.
The Judy Bolton Invisible Chimes (volume #3), published in 1932 is referenced on the title page, so this is probably not a first edition, although each of the four introductory volumes was published in 1932, and it may well have been foreseen what the initial titles would be when this book was first published - in short, the print run can be narrowed down to 1932, since the fifth and sixth volumes were published in 1933, but its status as first edition cannot be guaranteed without a dust jacket to lend additional information. All we know is that this is a very early edition of Vanishing Shadow, if not a first.
John Axe format I (see The Secret of Collecting Girls' Series Books by John Axe). Thick light green cloth board with small square picture. Glossy frontispiece plus three glossy internal illustrations. Spine is slightly bowed and sun-bleached. Board edges have shelf wear and grundginess.
Lavender staircase endpapers.
No writing/markings except for the prior owner name and address on the pasted-down front endpaper. No overall page looseness, rips or tears, but the third glossy illustration is lovely and itself intact, but entirely loose, between pages 162 and 163. Light gray inked top page block. Price reflects the general grundginess and shelf wear.
Note to New York State residents: an 8.75% sales tax must be applied to the total - sorry!
