I bought this on sale from Guitar Center on a whim. The album covers a lot of different styles, so I don't use all of the songs. I really enjoy playing along with the songs that suit my taste, however, so I'm glad I own it. That said, you can't solo over a song if you don't know at least some basic scales. So I wouldn't say this is for a true beginner... for someone a little further along, though, I'd highly recommend the product.
