1910 WSC Purple Stein/Mug w/ Standing Elk hand painted transfer - The Milk Glass Horn Handled Stein / Mug is Rare & Hard to find in the Purple Casing & hand painting.
Mug is in very nice condition. Most of these early Mugs are seen in the Brown casing and have a Monochrome transfer of elks, drinking scenes, or some with mottoes. These were to mimic pottery and are referred to as rookwood –like the Pottery. Any agelines [small hairline cracks] is due to age and nature of /or elements in the glass mixture and will be found in most old milk [opal / opaque] glass.
See Reference –‘Westmoreland Glass’ by C. W. Wilson pages 103 & 223. This mug was made by the Westmoreland Specialty Company [1889-1924]-forerunner of the Westmoreland Glass Company [1925-1984].
