Vintage Sailfish Brooch Pin Thermoset Lucite Fish Figural Book Piece
Sportsfishing Swordfish Marlin
Transparent Plastic
Sail Fin
Orange Tinting
Textured
Iridescent Sheen
C-Clasp

This is a fabulous figural Sail Fish brooch or pin. This vintage Thermoset or Lucite Sailfish is unsigned. This fish pin is a book piece and is featured on page 33 of Collecting Art Plastic Jewelry by Leigh Leshner. She calls it Thermoset, so I am going with her expertise for my description.

Some people mistakenly refer to this as a Marlin or a Swordfish. It has wonderful carving or details. It features a huge sail fin on the back, painted mouth and fin and a glass eye. It has an almost clear finish with a textured sail and rows or dots along the body. It has a light transparent iridescent pearl-like sheen with orange tinting on the beak and fins. It has the typical arched pose of a Sailfish jumping out of the water. The metal pin-back with a C-Clasp is embedded into the plastic. This piece of jewelry is most likely from the 1940s. It measures 3 1/2 inches long and 2 1/2 inches tall from top of the fin to the bottom of the tail.

It is in very nice vintage condition and is ready to wear. There are no chips, breaks or repairs, but there are a few tiny marks on the back of the top fin, not really scratches, more like slight indentations inside the plastic. It may be from the manufacturing process, you don't see them unless you magnify the image. You can see them in the enlarged photos if you look carefully. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be a perfect addition to your vintage figural plastic jewelry collection or a gift for your favorite fisherman or fisherwoman. What great fun this would be to wear as an accessory for anyone who enjoys Sportsfishing. It will be the big catch that didn't get away.
