This is a stunning little Mexico signed Sterling Silver and Black Ebony Wood pin or brooch. The oval disc is cut out in an artistic abstract native symbol design in a geometric step motif. The black wood is layered or sandwiched between the solid silver back and the top. You can see where the ebony is pinned in place with silver rivets on the back. It is signed on the back in a circle "Sterling 925 Mexicoā€¯. Inside the circle are initials that I can't quite make out. There is also the Eagle Mark with the number 3 inside. From 1948 to 1979 Mexican silversmiths used an Eagle Mark. The number 3 in the mark represents Taxco.
It is in very good condition with no issues except for a tiny little surface scratch (see arrow in picture). You don't really see it unless it is magnified. The eye looks like inlaid granules of crushed turquoise. This measures 1 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide. The back pin has a double C clasp and is quite secure. It weighs .3 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 8.50 grams.
This would be a perfect addition to your collection of vintage Mexican jewelry. Small enough to wear on a lapel, yet bold and striking enough to make a statement. You can wear it both vertically and horizontally for a different look. It would be the perfect accessory for that little black dress with a pair of silver earrings.
