About the author:
Author and Artist, Francis Osborn Braynard was born in Glen Cove, New York. In 1939, he received a degree in History from Duke University and then went on to Columbia University to earn a Master's in Maritime History. In 1964, Braynard and Nils Hansell launched
the world's first Operation Sail, a pageant of of tall ships and naval vessels on spectacular display through NY Harbor in honor of the NY World's Fair. Three more of these events were to follow.
He went on to serve as the chief organizer for OpSail 76, a magnificent celebration in honor of the United States Bi-Centennial. This event was heralded as the start of the city's recovery. Braynard was also instrumental in the creation of South Street Seaport, which transformed several blocks of old waterfront buildings on the East River in New York City into a complex of shops and tourist attractions, including the South Street Seaport Museum, of which he was the founder.
A prolific author and highly accomplished artist, Frank O. Braynard wrote 34 books and illustrated 11 Sketchbooks. "Search for the Tall Ships" is the 6th of his limited edition published sketchbooks. On December 10, 2007, Frank O. Braynard passed away at the age of 91 at his long-time residence in Sea Cliff, New York.
Book condition is Good. Signed copy. Moderate wear on dust cover including a 2 inch tear on teht top of the front of dust cover. The book is in very good condition. The interior pages have no highlighting, markings or tears. Title page inscribed to original owner and signed by author.
