The Nautilus submarine was the world's first operational nuclear-powered submarine. The vessel was the first submarine to complete a submerged transit to the North Pole on 3 August 1958.
Sharing names with Captain Nemo's fictional submarine in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and named after another USS Nautilus (SS-168) that served with distinction in World War II, Nautilus was authorized in 1951 and launched in 1954.
Nautilus was decommissioned in 1980 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1982.The submarine has been preserved as a museum of submarine history in Groton, Connecticut, where the vessel receives some 250,000 visitors a year.

CONDITION: Very good condition. Unposted photo postcard has no pin holes, rips, tears or creases. Only minor wear to the very edges and at corners with slight discoloration (yellowing) of the white border on the front although the  white backside does not appear to be discolored. The front features the Ham Radio Operator Call letters which may have been stamped on or printed onto a standard postcard.
The light blue border around the scan of the backside is not a part of this postcard, we used blue paper when scanning to better define the edges of the white backside of this postcard.  (see photos)
