Ronald Eastbourne Renmark was born in York County, South Carolina where he lived for 12 years until his family moved to western North Carolina. He began painting at an early age when his parents gave him an oil painting set. During his high school years he attended a private weekend class of drawing instruction. Renmark is a graduate of the University of Miami where he concentrated on painting and art direction for film. During his junior year he went for further studies in Rome, Italy.
After graduation and a two-year stint in the army Renmark began to establish himself as a commission painter. Some of his projects during this period include Lord & Taylor for whom he painted large realist oils for each store; the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach; Palm Aire Spa; Rockwell International headquarters in the US. Steel Building, Pittsburgh; Grand Cayman Bank; and numerous other clients, private and commercial, throughout the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas.
Renmark with his wife and daughter moved to Patrick County, Virginia where he continued to take commissions and to easel paint. He worked in a large studio that he had built on his 100-acre farm. Also at this time he gained representation at a gallery in Winston Salem, North Carolina. It was during this period that he received the important commission to produce 22 large realist tapestries for the Tampa International Airport, a project that took 6 years to complete. The tapestries became an important part of the ranking awarded Tampa by Conde Nast for many years as the most beautiful airport in America and third in the world.
After completion of the tapestry project Renmark and his family moved to Richmond, Virginia where he now lives. Some of his larger commissioned works in Richmond include full wall paintings for Steve and Kathy Markel and for John and Sarah Van Der Hyde. His realist landscapes and still lifes are in numerous collections throughout the U.S.
Renmark has recently exhibited along with painter colleagues, Aaron Pavelis and Conor O'Keefe, at the distinguished Lazare Gallery in Charles City County, Virginia. These 3 painters form the core group of the "Richmond School", a name coined to describe the loose association of individualistic realist painters who share a commitment to emotion and value based works, portraits and landscapes, painted from nature with coherent meaning that is understandable. The group also has a high regard for the heritage of art prior to the last century.
