These two primitive boxes were part of a 100-plus year old wooden tool box created by a man in New Braunfels, Texas in the early part of the 1900’s. So they are over 100 years old. The tool box was sold off a long time ago, but these trays happened to miss the boat and accidentally stay behind in storage. They are known as nail trays that sat inside of this very heavy old wooden tool box. As was common for most poor carpenters of the day, tool boxes were handcrafted most likely from scrap lumber from a customer’s project.

In deciding what to do with them it hit me that they’d make a great primitive wall display for two bottles of wine, two wine glasses and a an old fashioned wine screw to place on the bottom or top shelf. However, if someone wishes I’m sure there are many other ideas one could use these for like possibly a Knick-Knack display shelf laying them horizontally on the wall in a staggered position, Candle Holder, Planter or even as a CD rack.

Since they are very old, the wood is still in great shape showing some wonderful aged natural rustic patina and a few paint spots. These are very solid and most likely made from Pine. The measure approximately 32” inches long by 4-½” inches wide by 3-1/3” inches deep on the inside, and 4” inches deep from the outside. One of the boxes has an end corner piece of wood that has broken off a very long time ago because all of the patina is consistent throughout and the other one does show a split in a piece of the wood at the bottom but has not broken off.
