Hand Painted China Plate St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Monument located in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Collector Plate Signed Hitomi Hand Painted St. Louis Cathedral & Jackson Monument, New Orleans
We have seen other similar plates, (unsigned), this was has a signature at the bottom by "Hitomi"
Plate Measures 8"
There are no makers marks or stickers on the back.
There is a string cord tied through holes in foot rim for hanging.
A beautiful item to add to any collection.
There are no identification markings on back, although we know that the Artist Hitmomi was famous for his variety of artwork on Japan made collector plates, including landscapes, still life paintings of fruits and flowers.
What is interesting is that I have seen several versions of this plate, some signed, some not signed, and the small orange haystack looking object near the bottom of the plate in the fence, has been painted many different ways, on one, it was a grey dome, (looking more like a doghouse), on another the fence is obscured by bushes and the dome is clearly a huge boulder.
Originally we (my daughter and I) thought to collect all the different versions of this plate, which would have been fun and interesting, but then we also noted several versions of other designs, one with a house in a landscape pained by Hitomi, for example, one house with a chimney and one without. (But then we ran out of wall space, and money, so those plans were sidelined, but perhaps someone out there would be as fascinated by these Hitmomi Japanese Hand Painted Plates as we were!)
CONDITION: Very Good Condition, "near" mint, only because the back rim does show very slight signs of shelf wear. There are No chips, cracks or scratches that we could see, paint is clear, not faded. There is a small black dot along the outer edge on the back of the plate, which appears to be in the glaze. (see photos)
