Okay -- strap yourselves in tight, 'cause explaining this book will take a little time.

First of all,  the book BEYOND THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is NOT a sequel to the original book THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, written by PAUL GALLICO in 1969 -- in the original book (SPOILER WARNING!!!) the ocean liner sinks into the ocean depths, and is seen no more.

But the producers of the 1972 blockbuster disaster film were so overwhelmed with the financial success of that film, that they convinced PAUL GALLICO to write a sequel to the movie -- but NOT to his original book.  GALLICO agreed, and had written at least a portion of the novel BEYOND THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE -- but then he died in July 1976, before completing the novel.

The completed novel was finally published January 1, 1978, without acknowledging the "ghost writer (s?)" who had completed Gallico's text; and the movie was finally released in 1979.

So who wrote what remains a mystery -- but we know for sure that the ocean liner Poseidon is definitely gone.

(Maybe.)
