Lin Weber has written a most original and informative story about Napa County, from the native Americans (our guapo Wappos) to the end of the 19th Century. The town of Napa was Napa City then and was settled at the time of the Gold Rush. What is now Napa Valley was more like the old Wild West. So much we've forgotten or never knew! Lin researched every detail, from the cinnabar, gold and silver mining here, to the Napa Valley Railroad and the Chinese population. We travel with Charlie Hopper, Joe Chiles and other pioneers on the wagon trail, relive the famous Bear Flag revolt and the rescue of the Donner Party. The report on Napa Valley wine industry of the last century is a discovery and a treasure. Lin is not only totally knowledgeable about our region, but entertaining too, and you can't wait to turn the page. The bibliography is extensive, but Old Napa Valley reads more like an adventure than a history text.
