The Polyphon was invented in 1870; it was first produced by Polyphon Musikwerke in Leipzig (Germany). Large-scale production began around 1896 and continued until the early 20th century. Polyphon traded under the Polydor label since 1913 with their trademarks Polyphon Musik and Polyphon Record
