Product description:
The yam root belongs to the Dioscorea species. The approximately 800 species are mostly native to tropical areas. They are plants with large above-ground tubers or root tubers. They are important starch-rich crops and are of great nutritional importance in some countries. They are also a valuable source of steroid compounds from which adrenal cortex hormones can be produced. Dioscorea species contain steroid sapogenins (diosgenin), alkaloids, resin and tannins in varying amounts. The yam attracted interest due to its content of diosgenin, a phytosterol that is very similar in structure to the steroid hormones DHEA and progesterone. DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone produced by the body in the adrenal glands, but its levels decrease with age. It has been found that there is a connection between low DHEA levels and aging and the typical symptoms of aging. Since DHEA reduces the symptoms of aging, regenerates the aging organism, supplies it with energy and promotes physical and mental well-being, it is referred to as a fountain of youth hormone. Traditionally, the yam is used for its relaxing effects on the muscles, antispasmodic properties for colic and for menstrual and menopausal symptoms. The yam is also important for bone health in women going through the menopause. In addition, the organism receives a nutritional substance from yams and thus produces its own vital hormones.
