New! Jesus as a Child – by Émile Munier – Beautiful Catholic Artwork – Catholic Gift – Archival Quality
Even as a child, Jesus was Lord. In this endearing picture of him as a young boy, Jeus is sweetly looking at us and giving us his blessing. There is the slightest tear forming in his left eye. We like Christies’ description of this picture: "In this sensitive rendition of the Christ Child blessing, Munier demonstrates his ability to capture the essence of childhood. The Christ Child looks serenely out of the picture plane with his hands in the iconic gesture of blessing and forgiveness, his delicate blond curls creating a natural halo within the golden one that adorns his head. The palette is restrained and the background is dark and simple. The prominent use of white and gold emphasizes the Child’s divinity, while the beautiful rendering of Jesus’ face underscores his humanity." (source: www.christies.com)Émile Munier (1840–1895) was a French academic artist who made his living painting beautiful children and young women. At first he had followed his father's career of doing artistic work at a tapestry mill, but eventually he devoted himself to painting, and won medals and exhibited in the Parisian Salons of the 1860s. He was a student and friend of William-Adolphe Bouguereau, from whom he learned a lot about being popular. Christies recently sold the original for $93,500. Oil on canvas. 16½ x 13 3/8 inches. 1893. Munier had another version from 1891 which we don't like nearly so well. ** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border all around the image of about .5" for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17" and 16x20". For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use only 0.5" margins. The ratio of the rectangle of the painting does not match the rectangles of the paper, so these figures are all approximate! The white space gives the framed picture a finished look without using a matt. – Acid-free paper– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.– Cardboard backer– Above story of the art– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag. Thanks for your interest! Thanks!Sue & JohnYou might also enjoy original Catholic Art and Jewerly by me, Sue Kouma Johnson, here on Etsy at www.Etsy.com/shop/TreeOfHeavenAlso, check out our Catholic Quote shop, where we are pairing authentic quotes from Saints with Art: www.Etsy.com/shop/CatholicQuote“In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by Christ, the Church needs art.” ~ St. Pope John Paul IIOriginal image is out-of-copyright.
