Morey Amsterdam's Benny Cooker Crock Book for Drinkers (1977 Hardcover)

* Author: Morey Amsterdam (1908 – 1996)

* Publisher: Henry Regnery Company, Chicago, Illinois U.S.A. 1977

Two books for the price of one: a collection of great recipes made with liquor and a hilarious collection of booze related jokes, poems and toasts to keep people occupied while the food is cooking.

The book is actually divided into chapters featuring appetizers, soups, entrees, vegetables and desserts. If you want to search for a recipe that contains a specific type of alcohol, the index is the place to start. Mixture of jokes to recipes is 1:1.

Morey Amsterdam (1908 – 1996) was an American actor, writer and comedian, known for the role of Buddy Sorrell on CBS's The Dick Van Dyke Show, also as Cappy, owner of the local nightclub, in the Beach Party movies of the 1960s. Book title and jokes from author's stand-up comedy act. Recipes from friends and restaurants around the world.

Near new hardcover has black cloth boards with gold lettering on spine in a price-clipped good DJ. Jacket shows minor edge wear with tear at head of spine stabilized with tape. Interior is tight, clean and text is unmarked. Ffep has smudged prior owner pricing.

Notes on Condition/Edition ratings:

Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new”. Booksellers needed some word to describe this...

Very Good – How you or I might take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard.

Good – How you might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” The most likely condition

for books of this age, shows the book has been read or previously owned.

Acceptable – How a child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure

someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or

a book that has been damaged.)

Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have

missing pages (you should ask).

Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end.

1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector

might desire this copy.
