RUSBAT 2 had come under criticism for its close relationship with the Serbs in Sarajevo. Their mission was to monitor one of the most dangerous parts of Sarajevo. The had up their base of operations in Serb-held Grbavica. The Commander was Colonel Viktor Vorobyev. They met with both sides to discuss ways to enforce the truce more strictly and find areas of compromise between them. In some places there was just ten to twenty meters separating the sides and the area between them holds no defensive positions for UNPROFOR troops. RUSBAT 2’s most important task was to monitor heavy weapons collection points. The job of RUSBAT was also to ensure that weapons are not used while the cease fire was still in force.
