When placed in a flask during distillation, they effectively prevent liquid from boiling. Additionally, they serve as buffers in gas absorption devices, enlarging the gas contact surface and preventing sudden rushes of gas.

In alkaline burettes, these glass beads are utilized in rubber hoses to initiate liquid check valves. It's important to note that while the glass beads cannot prevent violent boiling, their anti-boiling effect can be enhanced by adding specialized laboratory zeolite (ceramic particles) if needed.
