This lovely and RARE little "Doll Hat" by the ubiquitous designer Hattie Carnegie was sold through the Blum store in Philadelphia. The base is black felt, with a pink and white ostrich feather frond on top and a long, long streamer set of black cotton net that cascades down the back. It has an adjustable hat band, I have never seen one like this- it's a hook that loops into elastic for ultimate adjustability.
The hat is a flat semi-circle and sits daintily on the head. This is WWII era, when tiny was the norm and feminine was sometimes, often expressed in millinery, as the suits were more tailored. This style was actually made popular by the designer Schiaparelli, at the end of the 1930s, when war was already covering Europe. She named it " The Doll's Hat" for its small aspect and miniature composition. It is in absolutely perfect condition. A real collector's item.
This vintage hat is ready for your next vintage affair, church, USO dance, reenactors event, vintage fashion show, wedding hat, or funeral hat, and it is great for Movie, TV, and theatre costumes. Or maybe even the Kentucky Derby! Lately, I've enjoyed movies with hats like this, such as The Guernsey and Potato Peel Pie Society” and “ Breathe”.
I tried it on to show how it can look on a real person. Fun Fact: I am not a model! But I AM a real person:)
