Antique Khmer Style Bronze Meditation Bayon Buddha Statue - 14cm/6"
Measures (Height) 14cm/6"
A post-Angkor 13th century style seated Khmer Bayon style Buddha.
This lovely Buddha is seated in half lotus, Padmasana pose. He is clothed in monastic dress composed of two traditional elements, an undergarment consisting of a long piece of cloth draped around the hips, and a long loose
Sanghati robe that covers his left shoulder. The clothing sensuously hugs the body revealing the anatomy beneath, a drapery style inspired by early seventh century Dvaravati styles that can be traced back to styles in Gupta period India.
The Buddhas hands are in Dhyana Mudra, the hand gesture that promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy.
The Buddha's face is serene, with a naturalistic and warm expression. The hair is piled high, rising to an ushnisha, symbolizing his high level of spiritual development. The face has half closed eyes that suggest an inner meditation , a rather sensuous mouth and a barely dimpled chin.
The surface of the Buddha has a very appealing deep malachite green.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.
