Attributed to Emile Herbert, French, 1828-1893.
Comprising a central clock and a pair of flanking lidded vases, the clock on a red and black marble base with Pharaoh busts on either side, surmounted with the Egyptian queen 'Isis' enthroned, the two vases similarly decorated.

A versatile artist active during the second half of the 19th century, Herbert produced romantic bronzes and marbles, as well as furniture and decorative pieces in the neoclassical and Egyptian styles. He exhibited at many of the important exhibitions including the Paris Exhibition of 1855, the London Exhibition of 1862 and again in 1867 when he won the Gold Medal. Some of his bronze statues are included in the collections of prestigious public institutions such as his Amazon Preparing for Battle, which is in the collection of the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and another captivating bronze composition, Mephistopheles, which is in the collection of the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. A neoclassical gilt bronze, ebony and marble table executed in 1878 is in the collection of the Musèe D'Orsay.
