1943 Motor Annual - Cadillac Buick Packard Fisher WWIIThis is the highly collectible HARDBOUND edition of the October 1942 Motor magazine Annual Show Issue. 10 X 14" with a whopping 236 pages, this monster weighs over 3 lbs! Over 1,000 photos and illustrations. Dramatic World War II cover art by acclaimed artist Robert Robinson. |
Packed with great articles, pics and advertisements, the show issue was the premier issue for each year, as it typically showcased the newly released models from each manufacturer. In this issue, the emphasis was on the efforts of the various car manufacturers as they shifted their production from civilian cars and trucks, to military cars, trucks, tanks, Jeeps, armored vehicles, planes, armament, guns, and boats as part of the war effort.
This issue features a special section with a retrospective of each of the major car make, with pics and specs going back to the makes' origin! Included are Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, Ford, Hudson, Crosley, Lincoln-Zephyr, Nash, Oldsmobile, Packard, Plymouth, Pontiac, Studebaker, Willys, Overland. Major specs for each model for each year-- this is a goldmine of information for 40 years of US car manufacturing!
Included are full page ads with illustrations for Cadillac (tanks, aircraft engines), Pontiac (Naval cannons), Fisher (engines, bomber assemblies, Naval gun parts, tanks), Studebaker (engine for Flying Fortress), Buick (steel casings), DeSoto (tanks, cannons, military cars and trucks), Packard (Rolls Royce engine for P-40, Packard marine engine for PT boats), Nash (Pratt & Whitney engines for Corsair). The ads during this period were particularly interesting, becauseof their patriotism during the war. Note Hitler caricatures in the ads.
Articles in this year's show annual include: War cartoons, auto industry support of the war effort; government wartime regulations affecting the auto industry; automotive styling; auto dealer's part in the air war; bombing of Scheffield, England auto showrooms; Truck service; Service Girls; more!
There's more.: The advertiser's index in the back of this piece lists over 100 auto and auto supply manufacturers whose advertisements are included in this piece. Virtually every car manufacturer advertised in the Motor Show issues.
This is really a neat piece. It's combination Auto Year Book, time capsule, photo album, shop manual, and reference library, all rolled into one! The hardbound editions rarely show up for sale. This one is the best I've seen, Xlnt condition, looks nearly new! Very Very light wear at top and bottom of spine cover. Interior cover and pages appear new.
