ABOUT PEARLS
Akoya Pearls
They are seawater-cultured pearls of Japanese origin along the southern coasts and are formed by Akoya oysters. Akoya pearls are distinguished by their perfectly round shape, rich luster in pink and silvery white, and a size ranging from 5.5 to 8.5mm in diameter. Among Akoya pearls, only white, golden cream, and silver gray are natural hues. All other colors are dyed.
South Sea White Pearls
South Sea cultured pearls are of extraordinary quality, presenting a whitish, almost silver shade. Larger than the average pearl, the smoothness and roundness of these pearls are outstanding. They are among the rarest and most exceptional pearls you'll come across in jewelry. South Sea pearls originate from the white-lipped variety of the Pinctada Maxima oyster. This oyster is considerably larger than those that produce Akoya and Freshwater pearls, leading to a much larger pearl. Due to the scarcity and sensitivity of this type of oyster, the cultivation of these pearls is far more demanding, thereby making them more expensive.
South Sea Golden Pearls
Australia, the Philippines, and Indonesia are the habitats of the South Sea Gold Pearls, which are formed by gold-lipped oysters. They range in diameter from 9 to 16mm. The majority of these pearls display a champagne color, while a minority are gold, which is a true indicator of their value.
Tahitian Pearls
The origin and classification of Tahitian black pearls
Tahitian black pearls are produced in Tahiti, which is part of the French Polynesia Islands in the South Pacific.
Their origin is closely related to the cultivation of pearl oysters and the unique marine environment. During the growth of Tahitian pearl oysters, they secrete nacre when foreign substances invade, gradually forming pearls.
The classification of Tahitian black pearls is mainly based on aspects such as color, shape, size, and luster.
In terms of color, common ones include black, gray, peacock green, blue, etc. Those with green or blue overtones are often more precious.
In terms of shape, they can be classified as round, oval, teardrop, baroque (irregular shape), etc.
In terms of size, they usually range from 8 millimeters to 18 millimeters in diameter. The larger the beads, the rarer they are.
In terms of luster, high-quality Tahitian black pearls have a strong and uniform luster.
Overall, Tahitian black pearls are highly favored in the pearl market due to their rarity and unique charm.
Keshi Pearl
Keshi pearls possess several distinct features in contrast to other pearls:
Firstly, they are non-nucleated. This implies that they are formed without an artificial core, contrary to numerous other cultured pearls.
Secondly, being constituted entirely of nacre grants Keshi pearls an exceptional luster and surface quality. Their shine is frequently more intense and radiant than even the highest-quality cultured pearls.
Another feature is their irregular shape. Though some Keshi pearls might approach a more conventional form, they are typically less uniform and symmetrical when compared to many other pearls.
FAQs
1. Are your pearls genuine? All our pearls are 100% natural and authentic. We never sell counterfeit or imitation pearls.
2. How to differentiate genuine pearls from fake ones? Rub two pearls against each other. Real pearls will give a slightly 'gritty' texture, as if you were rubbing sand. In contrast, fake pearls will feel perfectly smooth.
3. Real pearls are seldom “perfect”. Usually, they have small flaws or irregularities in their shape. Fake or imitation pearls are almost always “too perfect”, showing no indentations or imperfections. While perfectly round real pearls are rare but possible, a necklace isalmost never made solely from these types of pearls. If a necklace is composed of pearls that all appear to have the exact same smooth and round shape, it is almost certainly a fake. High-quality pearls are often valued for their overtones - the subtle color visible on their outer surface when illuminated by light. Fake pearls typically do not have this overtone effect, which is difficult to replicate.
4. How long can my pearls endure? High-quality freshwater and Akoya pearls can last a lifetime with proper care. South Sea and Tahitian pearls have exceptionally thick nacre and can last for generations.
