Description
This is a fine antique photograph that came out of the WJ Harris estate here in Florida that I purchased decades ago. Harris was a noted 19th 20th century photographer who immigrated from England and eventually his way to Florida from Pennsylvania and New Jersey establishing photographic studios in Tampa and St. Augustine.
From 1898 until his death in 1940, he accumulated an impressive body of work, portraying many of the city's landmarks in historic photographs that are still being published and collected today.
Larger versions of his works are still displayed in several city and county buildings, as well as some of the bigger hotels in St. Augustine, and his postcards turn up regularly on auction sites like.
This particular photograph has a penciled identification of Scoh Bisterb? I am certain I am not properly identifying the signature or location. I believe this photograph was taken near the Dumment Sugar Mill in Volusia County near Ormond Beach in the Tomoko Forest..
In any case the image is mounted and measures 4' oe x 6 oe inches and in addition to the mount the measurements come in at 6' oe x 9 oe inches.
