The cream jug is made in Birmingham by Jones & Crompton and dates to 1905. Edward Samuel Jones founded the business around 1895 with Hubert Crompton joining as his partner in 1899. Operating from Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter, they remained active until the mid-1930s.

The hallmarks, just below the rim, are clear to read with just the anchor symbol being somewhat rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1911 and the J & C makers' mark for Jones & Crompton.
