This is a hard cover edition of the rare biographical classic Wearing of the Gray Being Personal Portraits Scenes & Adventures of the War 1867 by John Esten Cooke, published by W B Treat and Co. of New York. The book is a first edition. The book is in very good condition with marbled hardcover and leather finish to the covers, however the front cover is detached, possible because of my scanning and hopefully can easily be reattached.. There is some damage to the bottom right corner of the spine. The pages are white, firmly attached and the only spotting I see is on the illustrations and is minimal, .The book's pages are all intact, no major tears, missing pages or repairs. The two portrait illustrations have onionskin to protect the opposite page, the rest of the illustrations do not and some of the image has transferred to the next page. On the first page are two names. The first name is very faint and I have made it easier to see. It appears to be from someone named Worthington (possibly a Major) and is dated Nov 1st 1867 and was given to someone named Higgins. The book is 9" tall, by 6.25" across, by 2-1/16" wide. It is 601 pages plus some advertising and weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces.
