Hallmark Lionel General Steam Locomotive Keepsake Christmas tree ornament from 2000. Often referred to as "America's Favorite Locomotive", the General (1872) was offered by LIONEL in the 1950s. The original General had become famous on April 12, 1862, when Union soldiers captured the locomotive deep in Confederate territory. Before they could reach Union lines, the engine was overtaken by the Confederates - but not before a thrilling chase covering 87 miles! The story was retold in the film The Great Locomotive Chase. #5 in the Lionel Trains series. Price tag is still attached to the box. Size: 3.1/4"long
