This is a very nice African, South Sudanese Trumbash ceremonial knife. South Sudan region of the Mangbetu people. Iron blade of typical beaked form and is sharp along both edges from the protusion at the base of the blade to the acute point. The blade has a nice dark patina with forging and shaping tool marks still evident. . A dark wooden hilt is lenticular in cross section for the part adjacent to the blades stem and is wrapped with a twisted narrow iron strap. Estimated to be from around 1900-1920.
