KENNECOTT CHINO MINES
SANTA RITA / HURLEY SMELTER
SANTA RITA NM
1 SOLID COPPER ANODE PAPERWEIGHT
This is a more common size anode than the large one I sold last time.
This is an Unusual Style Anode -- Made in the shape of Michigan Anodes, Not the More common T-shirt Anode
FROM ESTATE IN BAYARD NM
These are paperweight sized molds cast in the smelter and Taken home by Mine Employees. These were Referred to as, "LUNCHBOX COPPER," because they were taken home at random in employee's lunchboxes, with, (or without), management's permission.
These particular anodes were castings that were made in the shape of the East Coast Style Finished anode. The West Coast Mines all poured, T-Shirt style anodes for shipping.
These anodes have ALL THE ORIGINAL metals that were present in the ore that went into the smelter for that particular crucible pour. These may contain, (in addition to copper), Silver, Gold, Molybdenum, Zink, and other metals....
This rectangle paperweight weighs in at just 1.6oz.
The Smelter was closed in the early 2000's
Kennecott sold out to Phelps Dodge in the 1980's, and they sold to Freeport MacMoran in the early 2000's.
Neither Phelps Dodge, nor Freeport ever gave these away to the best of my knowledge.
