Oil painting of fishing boats outlined by the evening sun, titled, Boats and Setting Sun, was the work of Japanese artist, Ohara Koson.

Born in Kanazawa 1877, Koson became famous as a painter and woodblock print designer.  His early passion was in creating bird and flower artwork, using subtle shades and very detailed subjects.

He was also a teacher at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, and later an artwork adviser with the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.  He stopped creating new artwork in 1935.

Ohara Koson died at his home in Tokyo in 1945.
