The medal is a full size award measuring 1.1/8th inches (28mm) in diameter and in very finecondition. It is of silver construction with gilt and blue enamel.
The ribbon is original and is in excellent condition retaining the twin pin attachment on the reverse.

This is the WW2 award confirmed by the link ring type suspension (between the medal & suspender) on the reverse. The WWI type has a hinged suspension and is also dated 1870 on the obverse.

The medal militaire was awarded for gallantry and courage. It was not only bestowed upon French soldiers but, also allied soldiers for acts of bravery.
