Pre-viewed for quality and had some "invisible" waves or scan lines on the opening credits which take 10 minutes to unfold. Their is a visible rolling line at 17 minutes, but plays fine otherwise on my JVC deck.
Box has been cut and mounted in a white hardshell display case. It has a fine scratch on the cover and a little wrinkle on the lower left corner (see photo). There is also a small 'horror' sticker on the top left spine. Cassette is clean with a foil security sticker on the right endcap assuring you of first generation quality.
Even today people can't seem to agree on PRINCE of DARKNESS: Is it a neglected masterpiece or glorified B-movie trash?
A group of theology, physics, and mathmatic doctoral students are shut in for the weekend in a dilapidated inner city church to study a newly discovered lava lamp-style structure in the basement, containing what appears to be the essence of Satan.
The church is watched over by a sect called the Brotherhood of Sleep. The container of green glowing swirling fluids is believed to be a doorway for the Devil to return to Earth. The scientists led by Victor Wong and priest Donald Pleasence study the phenomenon. Old superstitions versus computer tech is an exciting element.
As the investigators squabble about the leaking cannister's contents they observe, sinister street people led by Alice Cooper gather around with murderous intent, the insect population becomes highly agitated, fuzzy messages from the future invade dreams, and several scientists dosed with the green slime return to life as satanic zombies.
Sound weird?! Well, yeah, but Carpenter's astonishing visual sense and uncanny knack for maintaining seperate, suspenseful storylines is enough to make this serious nightmare material.
