This beautiful oil painting, Girl with the Red Hat, was painted around 1665 by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer.

Vermeer was born in October 1632, in Delft, Netherlands. Although he's considered one of the greatest artists of the Dutch Golden Age, where he learned to paint and with whom is still a mystery to this day.

His early paintings were large biblical and mythological scenes, but he later developed a love of capturing domestic scenes of middle-class life.

Vermeer died in December 1675, in Delft.
