Sweet Alyssum is a fast, easy to grow and trouble free tender perennial. (Zones 9-11) Will reseed readily and return in most locations/zones as an annual. Sun to partial shade.
Sprawling plants with dense clusters of small flowers. Excellent in edges, borders, beds, rock gardens, containers and hanging baskets! The smell is intoxicating! Plant is mass near walkways for a whiff everytime you pass. These sweet plants are beloved by pollinators. Also attracts and provides a food source for beneficial insects such as lacewings, parasitic wasps, tachinid and syrphid flies.
To grow sow seeds up to 4-6 weeks before your regions last frost date. Do not cover seed as light aids in germination. Harden off before transplanting outdoors.
Can also be direct sown outdoors in place as soon as soil can be worked. In mild regions seed can be sown almost any time of year. Keep moist until germination. Water carefully as to not disrupt seed since they are surface sown.
