handmade
artisan sterling silver Art Deco brooch
a fine gold plated finish called vermeil. It gives the sterling silver a warmth which is lovely and was very fashionable at the time this piece was made.
On the reverse it is signed by the maker and marked sterling.
It secures with a safety clasp on the reverse.
16.7 grams approximately.
3 3/8" wide by 1 9/16" tall (86mm x 40mm).

To me the design is quite aerodynamic and looks like an abstraction of  a bird in flight.

It is in good condition. From when this piece was made you can slightly see the indentation that the makers stamp made to the silver from the front - this only really on close examination. The vermeil finish is 80 years old so it doesn't appear as bright or as thickly applied as it would have when it was made - this patina attests to the originality of this wonderful art deco brooch.
