Neolithic Chinese jade axe circa 3000 BC.
The axe is carved in nephrite jade, there is alteration from burial over the millennia to the surface both front and back.
In places the altered jade appears brown and beige. Here and there the unaltered original color of the jade, a lovely green, appears through the complex surface patterns. The top of the blade has some loss consistent with the authenticity of this piece which has occurred in situ over the millennia as the jade was exposed to the elements.
The artifact is beautiful and it displays well.
