This is a solid axe with blackened 'forged' finish for rugged authentic look and weighs in at over 5 lbs. Thick axehead and oval hardwood handle with steel wedge for secure head retention. Not pretty! Great for re-enactors that want gear that looks authentic. 

Originally I ordered just this one to evaluate. This axe and similar from szco hit the sweet spot; better construction than the GDFB, tougher than the smaller lighter ones from szco that are more decorative, half the price of comparable Hanwei and still solid quality. Factory edge is only moderately sharp. I'm a collector and weekend warrior, active in local HEMA groups and Renaissance Fair. I list what I own and can recommend.
