Midnight Mass
is the title of the 1959 Rosenthal Christmas Plate. It features a view of a country church in a snow-covered landscape on a cold winter night. The bright light coming from the church window shows that the Midnight Mass is in progress.
Hand painted ("handgemalt") under the glaze in muted shades of blue, yellow, green and gray. The central scene is banded with gold, and bears the inscription “WEIHNACHTEN 1959” (Christmas Night 1959). The highest quality porcelain, approximately 8.5 inch (21.5 cm) diameter. Marked on the back “Christmette” (Christmas mass). Signed “Rosenthal, GERMANY”. Entwurf (Artwork): Willi Hein. Pierced foot for hanging wire.
