Very Rare Movie MARISKA 2001 VHS Akwetey Kanyi African Film Festival New York Black

Item Description:

Up for sale is this scarce VHS, “Mariska”.

-Not the best condition.  Flaws and warping to the box.  What looks like mildew / mold in the deck (shown), but not visible when I lift the flap to look at the tape.

-Written, produced, and directed by Ashangbor Akwetey-Kanyi of Akwetey Kanyi Films.

Story:  A happy marriage of Mawusi and Mariska was shaken when Mawusi was hospitalized.  A favor kiss from Black Hammer was used by Tiokor to blackmail Mariska.  This brought separation between Mariska and Mawusi.  Tiokor married Mawusi but was found out as having used ‘juju’ (the spirit of Azanbuja) on him and sends her packing.  Mawusi sieges his own death to implicate Zoran who nursed Mariska back to health and married her.  The secret was only revealed after the local judge knocked down Mawusi and Zoran was released from jail.

Running Time:  100 minutes.

Recommended in the book Spectacles of Blood: A Study of Masculinity and Violence in Postcolonial Films.

I do not have a VHS player, so this will be sold as is, untested.
