The Rubaiyat Of Omar Khayyam is a collection of four line verses, often known as quatrains in English. Each verse is a Rubai, meaning 4 in Arabic and Farsi (Persian), and Rubaiyat is the Arabic plural for this word.
This copy is a beautiful leatherbound reproduction with text taken from the fourth edition, followed by that of the first, with notes showing the extent of his indebtedness to the Persian original.
Beautiful soft leather edition of "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam," translated by Edward Fitzgerald. Has a date of 1898, but feels more likely to have been published sometime in the early 1900s. See photos for example of contents.
There is a preface by Andrew Lang, {Rainbow Fairy Tales}, and a biographical preface with Fitzgerald's sketch of the Life of Omar (shown right), followed by a foreword by Talcott Williams on tissue paper.
