Nice antique original trade card for the infamous quack medicine Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup
Pharmacist Jerimiah Curtis invented this dangerous concoction in Bangor, Maine and it made him a millionaire. In 19th-century America, Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup was one of the most successful and lethal potions on the market. Druggists openly sold millions of bottles of this opiate and alcohol-laced patent medicine for consoling fussy babies. It was linked to untold numbers of child deaths and the American Medical Association labeled it a “baby killer.”
