2004 Hallmark ornament has been in a Christmas tote for years and never removed from his box. The box has wear and the inner plastic has yellowed, but he's still fastened in there. I wouldn't be surprised if the plastic insert was a bit brittle from age. 

He was just removed from the box for the first time ever for me to take photos.
