The data by which this 3D topographical map was modeled came from NASA's MOLA altimeter onboard NASA's Mars Global Surveyor mission. It is constructed of a durable, plant based plastic.

The valley in the middle is named Schoeter's Valley. The deep crater to the left is Aristarchus and the one to the right is Herodotus. Aristarchus was a Greek astronomer who presented the first known heliocentric model that placed the sun at the center of the known universe with Earth revolving around it.
