COCA- COLA Cyprus has issued two hundred thousand bottles to commemorate Paphos as the European capital of culture 2017.
A Paphos municipality spokesman told the Cyprus Mail that this is an honor for the town and the first time that such as action has been taken for a smaller sized event.
“Coca- Cola usually only create such bottles for high profile events such as the Olympic Games, the Football World Cup, the European Football Championship (Euro) and others.”
He added that the issue of Pafos2017 bottle was requested and licensed from Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta, USA.
The collectible soft drink bottle was presented to the Mayor of Paphos Phedonas Phedonos by Lanitis Brothers Ltd on Friday.
According to Lanitis the Coca Cola Company is the world’s largest beverage company and operates in more than 200 countries. Its brands include Coca Cola, Coca Cola Light (diet Coke), Sprite and Fanta. The Cyprus based company has been working with them for more than six decades.
The spokesman added: “Lanitis Brothers has issued 200,000 bottles, which will be available in the Cypriot market, with emphasis on outlets in Paphos. The company is also the official sponsor of the volunteer programme of Pafos2017.”
