Two nicely framed woodcut images of women in brick-red ink, by French artis Aristide Maillol (1861-1944). These untitled images date to 1939, and are from the Odes of Horace. They are printed on antique-white Canson paper and were originally sold by the Far Gallery, Madison Avenue New York. The Far Gallery opened following World War II and was an upscale art gallery that would remain a Madison Avenue fixture until it closed in1972. The woodcuts measure 5.5” x 8.5” and are in very nice original condition. Please note, the wood block with three women does have some light discoloration on the edges of the mat (please see pics).
