Amba Haldi or Mango ginger (Curcuma Amada) is a unique spice having morphological resemblance with ginger but with a raw mango flavour. The main use of mango ginger is in the manufacture of pickles and culinary preparations. Ayurveda and Unani medicinal systems have given much importance to mango ginger as an appetizer, alexteric, antipyretic, aphrodisiac, diuretic, emollient, expectorant and laxative and to help against biliousness, itching, skin diseases, bronchitis, asthma, hiccough and inflammation due to injuries. Amba Haldi prefers hot and humid tropical climate having high rainfall. It is found in open conditions but also tolerates low levels of shade. The cultivation is best for partially shaded portion. It grows well in sandy loam soil.
