An elegant silverplate over copper mid-century leaf form serving dish. Three crown "hallmark" silver plate heart shaped candy/nut/olive dish by Royal Hickman.

In shiny, used condition with some surface scratches, silver wear, tarnish (patina) consistent with age & service. The hallmark is on the stem as shown in the photo. The handle also has the identifying row of raised circle bead design. 

The designer Royal Arden Hickman was a truly gifted set designer and prop maker in many old Hollywood B&W films. If you have ever seen an old black and white film from the 1930s-1960s chances are you have seen the set design, furniture, lams and tableware of Royal Hickman. He worked with the best directors in old Hollywood, such as Alfred Hitchcock. He was also a master silversmith and ceramics artist. This piece was more than likely made in his Palm Beach studios. While a bit pricey, you are acquiring an item with history from a great American master of the early 20th Century and one to treasure for a lifetime. Royal Hickman designed for Haeger Potteries (Dundee, Illinois) during the 1930’s to the early 1940’s. His range of work over the years included creations in ceramic, glass, metals and wood for firms as diverse as International Silver, J. H. Vernon (New York), Heisey Glass, Vernon Kilns as well as his own label.His pieces are found in some of the best private and public collections and even owned by crowned monarchs in Europe.
