PICTURE of THE WEEK: There are many who react cynically when a megawatt star saddles up to a worthy cause, especially if such sidling might do a scuffed up image a bit of good. When Brad tabloid staple these days, journeyed to Africa this to bring attention to conditions there, the scoffing was audible. But the record it was Pitt's second trip to the continent in six months to raise AIDS awarene, told LIFE, "Twelve million AIDS orphans struggling to survive: This trage( touched me in ways I've never known." The exuberance on the faces of these dren in South Africa--many of whom live daily with the devastating fallout of AIDS epidemic---shows that Pitt has touched their lives, too. And with Bob Geldof's Live 8 concerts about to rock the planet next week, we'lI be reminded again that the actions of those who own the spotlight can, indeed, benefit the needy. PHOTOGRAPH BY J. TAYLOE EMERY.
